Stainless steel SUS304
SUS304 (stainless steel 304) is the world’s most widely-used stainless steel, accounting for about 50% of the stainless steel produced globally. Containing 18% Chromium and 8% Nickel, SUS304 stainless steel is resistant to corrosion in certain environments as air, sea water and acids. Therefore, they are applied in many fields from petroleum, food, pharmaceutical to marine.
There are 2 types of SUS304 (aka inox 304):
- 304L is a low-carbon stainless steel (the letter L stands for Low) and it is used to avoid corrosion in critical welds.
- 304H is a type with a higher carbon content than 304L, used in other fields where higher durability is required.
- Both SUS304L and SUS304H exist in sheet and tube form, but 304H is less commonly produced.

Manufacturing Ability
Starting temperatures of 2000F to 2100F are recommended for forging, with a suggested finish temperature above 1400F. The final usable forging temperature for Type 403 is 1300F. In addition, this material has better mechanical properties obtained in the forging and annealing condition at lower temperatures.
In addition, product hardening can be performed at temperatures ranging from 400F to 1400F. The strength and hardness of Type 403 will decrease at 800F while toughness increases with annealing temperature.
Application
- SUS304 wire: household appliances including stainless steel grills, nets, cloth hangers, cabinets, shelves, baskets, motorbikes, bicycles, and bird cages.
- SUS304 sheets and coils: used in kitchen utensils (pots, pans, spoons, forks, plates…), water tanks, sinks, chemical tanks, chemical containers and some other applications (architectural panels or interior decoration).
- SUS304 bars, squares, and V angles: used in handrails, machine shafts, knives and other applications in the production of machinery parts.
- SUS304 pipes: used in producing water quails and oil pipes.
- SUS304 round/forged pillar: used as table legs, chairs, cars’ motion shafts, motor vehicles, oil and gas drill pipes, gym equipments, hydraulic cylinders and gas cylinders…
- Besides, SUS304 is also used for producing:
- Food processing equipments (beer production, dairy processing and wine making)
- Woven or welded screens for mining, quarrying and water purification
- Industrial and civil construction
- Thermal exchangers
